The Environmental Inspectorate is a state authority under The Ministry of the Environment responsible for co-ordinating and supervising the use of the natural environment and natural resources, and able to use state powers to enforce its decisions. The Environmental Inspectorate can investigate and prosecute environment-related violations of the law and aims to guarantee through supervision the preservation of the natural environment for future generations.

The Environmental Authority is a county structural unit within the Ministry of the Environment which has the powers of an executive authority in certain cases defined in the law. The principal task of the Environmental Authority is to implement ministry policies, programmes and action plans relating to the environment, nature conservation, and forestry and fisheries in the county.
