Keila is a small north Estonian town of 9800 inhabitants which lies 25 km to the West of the capital Tallinn. The town covers an area of 11,25 km2, of which half is built-up and half is covered with forests, hayfields and bogs. The Keila river runs along the eastern edge of the town  before flowing into the Gulf of Finland in the Keila-Joa district. The main roads and railways to Paldiski and West Estonia (Haapsalu) run through the town, which is itself the major centre of the West of Harjumaa county. Business in the town is well developed and offers a lot of jobs in Keila, which are taken not only by town residents, but also by people from the surrounding area and even from Tallinn. The main industrial parks are all on the outskirts of the town.

Keila is divided in two by the railway lines. On the south side, “beyond the tracks”, lie detached houses with gardens, while the northern side is built up with blocks of flats.

Large parks (Central Park, River Park and Männik Park) and green areas, and the pine woods on the town's western edge make Keila a green and pleasant town to live in.
