In 1997, Keila town council set up the Keila Cultural Award in order to recognise those who have worked to promote culture within the town. The award is given to individuals or groups who have achieved something particularly noteworthy in the preceding year or who have worked over a longer period to bring something to the cultural life of the town or to bring honour and merit to it. The award can also be given for lifelong work. Cultural life in this context is interpreted in the broadest sense and includes art, education, science, folk culture, sport etc.
